SNBP and SNMPTN, What are the Differences?
The new regulation regarding the entrance pathway to State Universities (PTN) has indeed been announced by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbud Ristek) in early 2021. This new regulation concerns two entrance pathways to PTN that are commonly used by prospective students, namely the National Selection for Entrance to State Universities (SNMPTN) and the National Selection Based on Achievement (SNBP).
Although both are entrance routes to PTN, there are differences between SNMPTN and SNBP. What are they? Let’s see below.
What is National Selection Based on Achievement (SNBP)?
National Selection Based on Achievement or SNBP is a selection system carried out by the Indonesian government to select high-achieving students who will be given the opportunity to continue their education at a higher level such as Senior High School (SMA) or University.
This selection aims to identify students who have high academic potential and provide them with equal opportunities to get a better education.
SNBP is implemented nationally and is open to all Indonesian students who meet the specified requirements. Selection is done through written tests and/or practical exams covering various subjects such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, English, and others, depending on the level of education targeted.
After passing SNBP, successful students will get the opportunity to continue their education in related educational institutions. SNBP is one way to create better quality education in Indonesia by providing equal opportunities for outstanding students to get better and quality education.
What is the National Selection for State Universities (SNMPTN)?
National Selection for State Universities Entrance or database shop SNMPTN is one of the selection pathways for state universities in Indonesia. SNMPTN is held annually to select the best students from senior high schools (SMA) or equivalent to be accepted into state universities.
SNMPTN is conducted through three stages of selection, namely administrative selection, file selection, and academic selection. In the academic selection stage, high school students’ report card scores or equivalent are one of the main factors considered.
SNMPTN is a fairly prestigious selection pa th because students accepted through this path are considered to have quite good academic achievements. In addition, SNMPTN also provides an opportunity for students who are unable to take part in the selection through written exams or independent selection.
SNMPTN participants who pass the selection will be announced and immediately accepted at the selected state university, without having to take other selection tests such as SBMPTN or UTBK. However, the quota for acceptance through the SNMPT wordcamp sacramento 2019 – Recap N pathway is limited and the competition is quite tight, so not all participants who register can be accepted through this pathway.
Difference between SNBP and SNMPTN
SNMPTN and SNBP are two forms of selection of new students to enter state universities in Indonesia. Although both aim to select qualified new students, there are differences in management, roles, components, and capabilities for cross-department.
The following is an explanation of the differences between SNBP and SNMPTN:
1. Management
SNBP is managed by each university that holds it. Each university has the freedom to determine the selection components, the weight of each component, and how to implement it. SNBP can also be implemented simultaneously or in stages, depending on the policies of each university.
SNMPTN, on the other hand, is managed by the Higher Education Entrance Test Institute (LTMPT) established by the Ministry of Education and Culture. LTMPT is responsible for compiling test questions, disseminating information about SNMPTN, receiving and processing test results, and determining graduation criteria.
2. Role
SNBP allows universities to select new students based on several criteria, such as report card grades, written exam results, interview results, non-academic achievements, and so on. SNBP aims to obtain new students who are qualified and have the p usa bu otential to become leaders in their respective fields.
SNMPTN, on the other hand, aims to provide an opportunity for students with high academic achievement to be directly accepted into state universities without having to take other entrance exams. SNMPTN considers students’ report card scores and academic achievements in selecting prospective new students.
3. Components
SNBP has several selection components, and each university can determine different selection components. Some selection components commonly used in SNBP include written exams, skills tests, interviews, and file selection.
SNMPTN only has two selection components, namely report card scores and student academic achievements, as well as extracurricular activities. Each university has a minimum report card score and academic achievement limit that must be met by students to be accepted through SNMPTN.
4. Cross
SNBP allows students to choose different majors within one college or even between different colleges. Students who are accepted through SNBP are also usually placed in the majors they have chosen. Therefore, students must carefully consider their choice of major when taking the SNBP selection.
SNMPTN has limitations in choosing majors. Students who pass SNMPTN can only choose majors at one college. However, students can choose majors from various study programs available at the college of their choice.
In terms of cross-majors, SNBP provides greater flexibility for students in choosing majors that suit their interests and talents. However, SNMPTN is simpler.
Overall, the SNMPTN and SNBP pathways are very competitive selection pathways and require thorough preparation to succeed and pass the selection. Therefore, it is very important to prepare yourself well in order to have a greater chance of being accepted at the desired State University (PTN).
